Referee Abuse from Spectators
Referee Abuse from Spectators
In an effort to improve the atmosphere at our games and specifically the behavior of spectators - which is becoming more abusive towards officials - SCSOA Unit I is reminding our members of the preferred course of action should unruly behavior by spectators become an issue.
Before the game identify the school administrator. The Pacific View League will try to have an administrator for each school on site for all boys varsity league soccer games. Remind the administrator of the need for support controlling poor behavior in the stands.
Please do not unilaterally clear the field and its vicinity (stands) of spectators; let this action be the responsibility of the school administrator (FYI - a coach is a school administrator). If you ever feel unsafe, immediately leave the field to a secure location.

- Immediately stop play and ask the coach for assistance. (The coach should address the spectators directly)
- If the coach cannot/will not stop the behavior, then stop the game again and ask the school administrator present from either school to address the spectators, and monitor their behavior for the rest of the game.
- If the poor behavior persists, suspend the game for 2 minutes, with the players returning to their bench areas, and the school administrator/s joining all officials in the center circle.
- If the behavior persists, stop play and have the school administrator remove the unruly spectator/s.
- File a CIF Incident Report within 24 hours
